Welcome to Kell Orchestra!  We have two levels of orchestra at Kell:  Sinfonia is called Intermediate Orchestra, and we also have an advanced ensemble called Chamber Orchestra.

Each month I will post updates to let you know what is happening in the orchestra world at Kell.

Music Theory AP Exam is Monday, May 9th

Please encourage your child to keep up with the daily homework assignments and to study for the exam.

It has been a pleasure teaching all of them this year!

Orchestra April Update

We are in the final push to the end of the semester!  Please see the attached rehearsal schedule for our final performance.  Here are some more upcoming important dates:

Thursday, April 14th:  Placement Auditions for the fall and final Perfomance Assessment.

    Everyone must perform the audition.  It is the equivalent of a core EOCT.  The students got the music three weeks ago, and we are working on it every day in class.  Outside preparation is encouraged.  The grade will count as 15% of the final grade.

 

May 10th:  Spring Pops Concert

May 13th:  Orchestra Banquet

Festival Preparation

We are now in the final preparatory stages for our Large Group Performance Evaluation in Mid-February.  We are continuing to work on our intonation and reading skill, as well as musicality and phrasing.  Please encourage your student to continue to practice at home so we can do well at Festival.

For additional musical support, there is a wonderful website called musictheory.net that is worth checking out.

Orchestra Standards: Nov.

This month we will continue to focus on our intonation, sound production, left hand technique, vibrato and shifting.  We are preparing the Holiday Music as well as our Festival Selections.

Students are encouraged to download mp3s of the orchestra tunes, when available.  Try Itunes or Amazon.com.

November Orchestra Update

Hi Kell Orchestra students and families,

We had a great concert last Thursday night.  Thanks so much for all of the help from the booster club!

Here are a few upcoming events to mark on your calendar.

1.  This Saturday we are having our second car wash.  It will begin at 9:30 and end at 4:30.  Please meet at the Burger King on Wade Green Road/Rt. 92.  Students can sign up for morning or afternoon shifts.

2.  Coupon Books were due last week.  We will still accept them until Wednesday, Nov. 3rd.

3.  Poinsettia Sales begin next week and are due the week after Thanksgiving break (Nov. 29th)

4.  Our Holiday Program will be on Dec. 9th at 7:00 pm.  All students will stay after school until the concert so we can have a rehearsal on the stage.  Please send in $4 for dinner.  We will order pizza.

Orchestra Trip To Orlando

The Orchestra is going to Orlando!  The trip is March 16th-19th.  $530 (all meals and snacks are included)

Deposit of $250 is due Oct. 6th.  Balance of $280 is due January 27th.
