Culinary Arts II

These fourteen members of our Culinary Arts II class have been the stable force behind the operation of the new "SILO Coffee House".  On Mondays and Fridays, these students set up and open the Coffee House at 7:30 in the morning!  Tuesdays - Thursdays, the students relieve FBLA and DECA members at 8:15 and take email orders and deliver to classrooms.  Our new goal has been to clean up and close by 9:15 AM so that we have time for catering planning and preparation for our Longhorn Catering obligations! 

Students have truly had practical experience in meeting the many demands of business operations and responsibilities!

Introduction to Culinary Arts

Classes have been busy learning the basics of working in the culinary kitchens.  With 28 students in each of the 3 Introduction to CA classes, we work very closely with our groups to plan, prepare, and enjoy the food produced.  We have covered:  Evolution of the Food Service Industry (Unit 1)

                                                                   Kitchen Equipment, Tools, and Smallwares (Unit 2) 

                                                                   Food Safety and Sanitation (Unit 3)

                                                                   Nutrition  (Unit 4)

During our final 6 weeks we will cover the following areas:

                                                                   Knife Skills (Unit 5)

                                                                   Cooking Methods(Unit 6)

                                                                   Professional Concepts in the Culinary Arts Employment
