Intro to Culinary Arts classes started the year with a study of Culinary History, Current Trends & Factors which influence our Food Choices - Unit 1. After an important and lengthy completion of Unit 2 - "Food and Kitchen Safety", we are currently working with utensil and equipment identification in Unit 3 -"Kitchen Basics". We are spending alot of time concentrating on reading recipes and measuring accurately. Lab planning and working as a team has also been a challenge!
Favorite recipes of our students have included: Monkey Bread (both savory and sweet), Pizza from homemade yeast dough, Muffins, Biscuits/Cinnamon Rolls, and Tacos. This week student made "Apple Crisp" which we topped with vanilla ice cream while it was still warm. Yum!!
Remember - Extra Credit is available to students who repeat recipes at home for their families. You must return an evaluation of your "at-home lab" which includes planning/purchasing, preparation and clean-up, signed by a parent or guardian. (20 points will be added to "employabilty guideline" category).
