Spring Break Take Home Essay

Teapots

We are working on conventional/unconventional teapots. Your teapots need to be kiln ready by Friday, April 1st. They will be too dry to work on after we get back from Spring Break.

Ceramics IY- critique on your High Relief Clay Tile is on March 31st.

Ceramics IB- critique on your Altered Form with slip trailing/carving design is on April 1st.

Finishing Up Your Breadth

We have several projects that we are working on in class. We will finish these and then spend the rest of the semester tweaking existing projects, photographing, editing photos, and submitting!!!!

Are your 10 Concentration pieces finished??? They should be. We need to photograph them.

Early Christian through Gothic Art

 
For the Art History portion of the class, we will be focusing on art from the end of the Roman Empire through the middle ages. This will take us through the following styles/periods:

Early Christian- symbolic instead of realistic, catacombs, Christian imagery

Byzantine- Justinian, mosaics, the Hagia Sophia

Early Medieval- Germanic tribes, small and portable art, Illuminated Manuscripts

Romanesque- Architecture, classical influence, crusades and pilgramages

Gothic- Unity, height, flying buttresses, stained glass, realistic influence in painting

You are to create an illuminated manuscripts style design with your initials for you sketchbook with this unit. Your sketchbook assignment and the Eary Christian-Gothic quiz will be Friday, March 25th.

Roman Art

 

We have been discussing Roman art in class, as we finish up our radial designs. We will do the review for the quiz on Thursday, March 10th. Our Roman Art quiz will be Friday, March 11th. Your radial designs will be due Friday, March 18th. Make sure to check out materials if you need to work at home.
