During the 2nd Six Weeks, TAP interns will complete the projects in Section 3, Section 4, and Section 5 of their Teacher Resource Notebook ooutline below. The projects are aligned with the standards for TAP.
The TEACHING AS A PROFESSION (TAP) Intern will return to Kell High School on the following dates. A section of their Teacher Resource Notebook will be due at that time.

Teacher Resource Notebook
The contents of your resource notebook should be placed in a three-ring binder, and all items should be placed in sheet protectors. Section dividers should be included as indicated below. (10 points) This should also be available in electronic format. That means it is saved to a jump/flash drive.
Section 1: Resume (25 Points total; 5 points for each indicator) DUE: AUGUST 20, 2010
A. Write a resume.
B. List resume information in chronological order, with most current events listed
first.
C. Use the school address and phone number for personal information.
D. Provide dates for every activity and award.
E. List at least four references.
Section 2: Personal philosophy of education (25 points; 6 points for each indicator) DUE SEPTEMBER 17, 2010
A. Write a personal philosophy of education.
B. Include student's beliefs about education, teaching, schools, students and
any other aspects that comprise education.
C. Complete the paper grammatically and syntactically accurate.
D. Print the philosophy as a one page, word-processed, double spaced
document.
E. Compose the paper using accurate grammar & syntax.
Section 3: Discipline Plan (25 points; 6 points per indicator) DUE: OCTOBER 1, 2010
A. Develop a minimum of five classroom rules that would be appropriate for the
age group and/or discipline you are most interested in teaching. Each rule
should be stated in a positive manner.
B. Develop a discipline plan that you would follow if the rules are broken.
Identify the actions that would occur each time an infraction of the rules
occur.
C. Finally, identify five rewards that individual students could receive for
appropriate behavior. Develop five additional rewards that could be earned
by the class as a whole.
D. Prepare the above information on a handout that you could send home with
your students. Use borders, clip art, interesting lettering, etc. Appearances
are important, but remember, that the focus should be on the plan itself.
Section 4: Classroom Management Ideas/Teaching Tips (25 points) DUE: OCTOBER 15, 2010
A. Develop a list of characteristics of different age children. (K-1; 2-3; 4-6; 7-8;
9-12)
B. For each grade level, identify appropriate classroom management
techniques. (5 per level)
C. Give examples of cultural differences that would affect classroom
management techniques. Choose one particular culture to study.
D. Develop a proactive classroom management plan to use in one grade
level.
E. Identify 5 ways of gaining parent support for this classroom management
plan.
F. Explain three interventions to be used when working with special needs
students of this grade level.
Section 5: Lesson Plans (25 points for section)
A Locate the Georgia Performance Standards for the area and age group that you, the candidate, will be working with in the lab situation. (Please print these standards.)
B. Collect various formats used in unit planning and daily lesson plans. (Please
find 5 different formats.)
C. Interview a teacher on the practice of collaborative planning.
(Summarize this in a paper.)
D. Identify recourses that are used in the school system for field trips and speakers from the community. (Place these papers in your notebook, including field trip possibilities.)
E. Plan age appropriate learning environments for students that promote quality
lesson delivery. (Using the above standards, plan a classroom display linked
to a standard. Remember it is to be age appropriate.)
F. Identify the procedure for learning about a student's ability through assessment and the student's permanent record. (In a paper describe what types of information is found in a permanent record.)
Section 6: Teaching Strategies (25 points for section)
A. Evaluate the use of developmentally appropriate curriculum with students.
B. Develop a daily schedule of activities. (Plan a class day from 08:00 until
15:00, for a fictitious school. Be sure to include the name of the school and
what grade levels are taught.)
C. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate materials, lessons and
activities that support major content areas in an early childhood program.
(Omit)
D. Plan and use various strategies that engage and support diverse learners.
E. Plan ways to adapt the curriculum for students with special needs and
children with gifted abilities. (Choose one lesson that you would teach, and provide a lesson for it. Using this lesson, modify it for a special needs child, ie. Hearing impaired, visually impaired, learning disabled.)
F. Demonstrate strategies of instruction that promote physical, social, emotional,
cognitive, and moral development in students.
Section 7: Teacher Work Sample (25 points for section)
A. Write learning goals. (What would be a learning goal for development of this
portfolio?)
B. Create an assessment plan. (Develop a pre and post assessment, use the
instrument, determine impact of lesson taught.)
C. Design instruction to meet learning goals.
D. Self-evaluate and write a reflection on the lesson. (Rethink one of your
reflections to include the information listed below.)
- Examine personal performance in classroom, including strengths and weaknesses of materials, resources, and technology that was used.
- Assess the level of student engagement, listing positive and negative examples of student behavior. (Think back to what happened in one class.)
3. Provide evidence of modifying teaching practices to increase student
achievement. (Include an example of modification of a lesson to improve
the learning that happened in the classroom.)
. E. Prepare a supply list order from a school supply company. Include all
pertinent information. You should spend $150 of pretend money.
Section 8: Assessments (Look back over your testing notes to help with this section.)
(25 points for this section)
A. Determine a variety of assessment methods to observe and interpret a child's growth and development. (Compile a list of 2.)
B. List the purposes of your chosen assessments.
C. List factors to consider in choosing a method of assessment.
D. List the advantages and disadvantages of various assessment tools (from your list.)
E. Compile a list of contents for a student's assessment portfolio.
F. Develop a grading system that would be appropriate for a class in which
numerical grades (above 3rd grade) are assigned. Prepare a letter that you
could send home to parents explaining the system. (If you have already done this, include a copy in this section.)
G. Now create a class of five fictitious students. Randomly give each child grades
for a three-week period in one subject, and then figure each child's average.
Include a minimum of twelve grades, label each grade, and include a legend. I
should be able to arrive at the same average by using the system explained in
your parent letter. (You should have already done this. Put the grade sheets
here.)
H. Use the five students above and prepare a progress report using GradeQuick or other electronic grade keeping device. (You did this using excel.)
Section 9: Reflections (10 points for section)
A. Develop a set of questions and interview a student, a teacher, and a parent
on their expectations of teachers. (You should have this done.)
B. Keep a journal of experiences in the lab setting describing the candidate's
involvement with the mentor teacher and students and what was learned from
the interaction.
Section 10: Communication (15 points for this section)
A. Demonstrate skills in effective interactions with students, i.e. kneeling/sitting
when speaking with children, making eye contact to hold attention, using
positive comments when possible, etc. (No documentation needed, just a demonstration.)
B. Evaluate the role of active listening to children in effective communication.
(Define active listening. What would you do to demonstrate active listening?)
C. Summarize various methods of parental communication, i.e. informal
conversation, parent-teacher conference, telephone calls, newsletters.
D. Explain the importance of confidentiality when discussing issues with parents.
( A brief paragraph will be fine here.)
E. Define collaboration
F. Explain the importance of collaboration with others and how it benefits
students. (Short paragraph here of explanation.
